Biological-Based Filtration Technologies
The Mineral+Biome™: advances Water Quality through Innovative Mineral and Biological Filtration Technologies
Mineral+Biome™ is a cutting-edge nature-based solution that redefines water treatment by seamlessly integrating advanced minerals with biological filtration technologies. In an era of environmental consciousness, Mineral+Biome™ is compatible with the human body and nature, combining the power of minerals and microbes for unparalleled water quality enhancement.
Key Features of Mineral+Biome™:
Mineral Fusion: Mineral+Biome™ incorporates a unique fusion of minerals that act as natural purifiers, enhancing water quality by effectively trapping and neutralizing contaminants.
Biological Harmony: Harnessing the symbiotic relationship between microorganisms and minerals, Mineral+Biome™ cultivates a balanced and harmonious biological environment within the filtration system. This approach ensures effective pollutant breakdown without compromising the ecological balance.
Versatile Filtration: Adaptability is at the core of Mineral+Biome™. Its innovative filtration system is tailored to address a diverse range of water sources and contaminants, providing versatile and effective solutions for industrial, municipal, and residential applications.
Green Sustainability: Mineral+Biome™ exemplifies sustainability in action. By utilizing natural mineral and biological processes, it minimizes the need for chemical additives, reducing environmental impact and energy consumption, making it a leading choice for environmentally conscious water treatment.
Using a process called bio digestion, the beneficial bacteria in our bio filter system use enzymes to breakdown and absorb organic (and inorganic) material.
Harnessing nature’s process means no disinfection chemicals, less pumping, less wastewater and less energy usage.
Zero disinfection by-products
Most forms of disinfection (including chlorine) will oxidize, but not remove organic matter from swimmers such as skin, sweat or urine, or inorganic matter from personal care products like suncream. It is this oxidation that creates disinfectant by-products. Using natural microbial solutions, this is no longer a problem with Origin Aqua’s mineral+biome® system.

Whilst various countries have introduced legislation to control Chloramines, Trihalomethanes and Haloacetic acids, they only account for 25% of the 600 DBP’s identified in wastewater over the past 20 years. Other DBPs such as halonitromethanes (HNMs), haloamides, and iodo-DBPs are now emerging as even more dangerous, being both cyto and geno toxic. i.e. they damage cells and DNA.
50% less energy use
Origin Aqua’s revolutionary mineral+biome® system uses biodigestion in place of chemicals. Because organic and inorganic matter is broken down by enzyme producing bacteria, it allows water to circulate at a much slower speed resulting in half the amount of energy being needed compared to a regular swimming pool, depending on pool type and usage profile.

In a typical pool, water is circulated six to eight times per day. A private pool uses a constant 1.4kW – 2.0kW to do this. For a larger pool, in a 180-day swimming season, this works out as approximately twice the energy usage of an average UK household, (8,640Kwh per year).
Pool disinfectants and algaecide also require a great deal of energy to produce. Chlorine is manufactured through the electrolysis of sodium chloride and uses about two thirds of the energy used to produce steel! (6.3KWh per Kg). So, the ‘embodied’ energy of a residential pool can also equate to the same energy usage of a UK household (assuming chlorine levels at 2ppm for 180 days).
50% less waste water
Swimming pool filters need to be cleaned by backwashing. Most pools require regular backwashing to meet regulations and dilute the build-up of toxic disinfection by-products such as Chloramines, Trihalomethanes and Haloacetic Acids.
Because the mineral+biome® system does not produce disinfectant by-products, dilution is not required and filters can be cleaned with a combination of backwashing and air scouring.
This results in an estimated 50% reduction in water usage depending on pool type and use.

According to the World Wildlife Federation, two-thirds of the world’s population may face water shortages by 2025.
At the same time Griffith University in Brisbane found that one 50m public pool can waste 1.6 million litres of water per year. Assuming 9m x 25m public pools worldwide, that equates to 7,200,000,000,000 litres of water wasted by public swimming pools annually.
Zero Environmental Pollutant Risk
The environmental considerations with regards to pools are extremely important. Because our mineral water is organic, chemical free and non-polluting, our wastewater contains nitrogenous microbes that are perfect for use in your garden or as part of a larger permaculture system.

In the UK, backwash from chlorine pools has been classified as a trade effluent, requiring discharge consents from the Environment Agency. Wastewater chlorine “alternatives” such as salt, copper or silver are more polluting. Waste from salt systems creates ‘urban salinity’, while copper is non-biodegradable and highly toxic to the environment at low levels. Don't be fooled by silver and copper electrolysis claiming to be a chemical alternative to chlorine.
